He was a very influential piper who broke the boundaries of traditional piping music. He began composing soon afterwards, having travelled across Europe and been exposed to other traditions, especially Breton music. He attracted attention from folk bands, touring the US and Europe with the Tannahill Weavers, Wolfstone and Ceolbeg and became associated with Dougie MacLean, playing low whistle on his albums. Initially taught by his father, Gordon began his piping career at the age of 10, winning many junior competitions under the tuition of Walter Drysdale, but started to lose interest in competition piping by the age of 18, at which point he was an apprentice joiner. Jock Duncan joined the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board shortly after Duncan's birth and the family moved to Thurso then to Pitlochry. His parents were tenant farmer and bothy ballad singer Jock Duncan and Frances Duncan. The bagpipe is surely one of the noblest of all musical instruments, and whenever I play it, I am keenly aware of the great social and cultural Celtic heritage that it represents.Duncan was born in Turriff, Aberdeenshire on. This is why I'm always ready to provide advice and help to bagpipe students and even other experienced pipers who may not have had the benefit of top-notch teachers and consistent training. Sadly, even many people with professional training on other instruments often have only a vague idea of how a bagpipe really should sound and how it should be played. One of my heartfelt goals as a highly experienced, well-trained, and certifiably accomplished bagpiper is to educate folks about how truly amazing the bagpipe can sound. I am extremely well versed in Irish, Scottish, and other Celtic musical selections, and love to work directly with clients to tailor my performance to their particular needs and interests. I always take special care in how I present myself, tailoring my appearance, uniform, and repertoire to the circumstances and style of your event. I am proud to play this great instrument, and look forward to making your special event truly memorable, whether it is a funeral or memorial service for a loved one, a wedding, party, a corporate event or promotional activity, or some other remembrance or celebration.
